Safety at home.

Ecology of the home.

My home is my health

Poisoning of the human body can occur not only as a result of inhalation of carbon monoxide, but also as a result of prolonged exposure to harmful and dangerous substances in the air, water, and food.

Environmental problems of a home are associated with the possibility of its chemical, physical and biological contamination. Some harmful substances and factors enter the premises from the outside. This is street air, contaminated outer clothing, noise, vibration, various infections, etc.

My home is my health

Some harmful factors and substances arise in the home itself. Their sources are:

Vibration and noise

The sources of noise in residential and public buildings are street noise with its continuous and monotonous nature.

This noise is especially disturbing for those residents whose apartments or houses face the streets.

It has been proven that an increase in noise by 1 dB increases blood pressure by 2 mm Hg. pillar

Noise causes hearing loss, increases blood pressure, and disrupts the functioning of the cardiovascular system.

Vibration negatively affects the nervous system, causes joint diseases, disrupts the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, disrupts the vestibular system, as well as fatigue, pain in certain organs, nausea, etc.

Electromagnetic radiation or electromagnetic waves

This is a change in the state of the electromagnetic field propagating in space.

A person in the modern world is constantly under the influence of electromagnetic waves emitted by various instruments and devices that are connected to the electrical network or powered by batteries. Even the electrical wiring in the house itself is not a weak source of an electromagnetic field.

  • Ventilate the room periodically.

New equipment for indoor air purification - supply air purifiers

Advantages of a supply ventilation system with disinfection and filtration functions

  • Three air purification filters.
  • Filtration of all types of aerosols, pathogenic microorganisms, viruses and spores
  • Low noise and energy consumption.
  • It takes air from the street, carefully filtering it using three-stage purification and changing the temperature depending on the specified settings.
  • Thanks to the regular supply of air, it is possible to achieve impeccable freshness throughout the day.
  • At night, a special mode is provided that allows you to reduce the speed and energy consumption of the device and supply slightly cooled air, which is necessary for healthy sleep of a person and ventilation of the room in his absence

No matter how thorough and desirable the comfort of your home may be, it loses all its meaning if it is not supported by spiritual comfort, in particular, the confidence that you are safe in your own home.

The main threats that can cause problems for your home include man-made threats and threats caused by trespassing. Threats of the first type include gas leaks, fires, flooding due to a break in water supply and sewerage systems, and short circuits. Threats of the second type are the work of vandals or robbers.

A full-fledged integrated home security system is designed to protect its inhabitants from the occurrence of any of the listed types of threat or, in extreme cases, prevent its consequences.

The modern market for security systems offers a wide selection of modifications of any level of complexity and for any budget. The operating principle of any of these systems is to collect information from peripheral devices - sensors and transfer it to the central system control panel for the purpose of sending it to the home owner and security organizations.

Let's consider the main options for home security systems and subsystems.

1. Security alarm.

This system is designed to protect the site and the house from unwanted intrusion and vandalism. In a full-fledged security alarm system, three security lines must be consistently implemented.

The first boundary is peripheral. Its purpose is to monitor the perimeter of the site. It is usually implemented by security cameras that are installed along the fence. Modern cameras have many settings. In particular, they can be programmed to track movements only from outside to inside the territory, turn off the reaction to the movement of small forms (this way you won’t have to jump up in alarm if a cat climbed into the area), and set the on and off time.

Infrared sensors can be installed to assist security cameras. When motion is detected, such sensors can send a signal to the nearest security camera, activating its rotation in the direction where the object’s movement is recorded. This way you can save on installing a large number of cameras.

Less effective, but still useful perimeter tracking systems include break sensors installed on a special wire running along the perimeter, seismic sensors and capacitive cable sensors that are placed in the ground and react to approach.

The second boundary is the doors and windows of the building. Security cameras are also used here, which are combined with reed switches (sensors that control the fit of window frames and doors to the frame) and sensors that react to the fact of glass breaking.

And finally, third line - internal. It is also compiled by hidden surveillance cameras and a variety of sensors - inductive, capacitive, sound and infrared. This threshold has proven itself well in a situation where an attacker, having overcome the first two barriers, hides in the room to create the illusion of an erroneous operation of the system. When he resumes movement, the internal security line systems detect him.

Another useful component of the security system are the so-called “panic buttons”. They are located around the house in places where its inhabitants are most likely to be, so that if necessary, if they notice the entry of strangers, they can call a quick response team from the security service by clicking.

2. Security video surveillance.

The video surveillance system collects recordings from security cameras and stores them, providing the ability to view them. As a rule, such systems record data from each camera and display it on the computer or TV screen upon user request.

This system has excellent preventive quality. By regularly reviewing records, you can track the appearance of unwanted or suspicious persons near your home and prevent impending danger in time.

3. Fire protection system.

This system should work around the clock in any home. It also includes a rich arsenal of tracking sensors that respond to a critically rapid increase in the temperature of the space, as well as the appearance of smoke.

Infrared and ultraviolet sensors monitor the occurrence of open fire; they are installed, as a rule, where this probability is high. Sensors are also produced that are capable of performing a chemical analysis of air and detecting increased concentrations of combustion products.

Naturally, the first place to be equipped with fire sensors is the kitchen area, as well as the location of electrical equipment that most often operates in autonomous mode.

4. Access control system.

This includes intercoms, combination locks and automatic door opening devices based on a signal from a scratch card.

Video intercoms have proven themselves in the security systems market. With their help, the owner of the house can examine an unexpected visitor and find out what he needs. Through the video system, you can familiarize yourself with the documents presented, and then decide whether you will open the door to a stranger.

The latest automatic door control and opening systems are equipped with sensors for reading fingerprints, retina, facial features, timbre and voice intonation analyzers. Such systems are not yet widespread enough, but the reason is that all these methods have not yet gained popularity. As for the cost of such systems, it is quite affordable.

Access control with authorization can be used not only to protect the front door, but also to prevent, for example, the presence of children in areas where they may be at risk, for example, in the boiler room.

5. General security system.

To the listed security systems, one more should be added - a general system. The safety of each home occupant will be higher if the home security system is integrated into the overall security system of the village or neighborhood. In this case, the cost of installing the system falls, and efficiency increases.

HOME SAFETY

Each of the comments contained in this section is surprising in its simplicity. Most accidents and crimes, however, occur precisely because the necessary safety rules are considered too trivial to follow. It must be remembered that the first rule when being anywhere is prudence, based on elementary norms. Nothing that is within our power should be neglected. Criminals are very attentive to little things that can be taken advantage of.

Theft in an apartment
You experience a moment of shock when you return home and find open boxes with their contents scattered on the floor, cut paintings, broken boxes, torn mattresses, broken vases and pots. At such moments you feel a deep sense of insult. If real theft is also added to this, then you also suffer from damage - paintings, jewelry, money put aside for a rainy day in a secret drawer are stolen. Often all this was acquired over many years.
How to protect your apartment or place of work from such trouble? It may seem impossible to protect yourself from being robbed. In addition to robbing banks, post offices and luxury apartments, thieves also target apartments. Even there you can find something to profit from: fur products, money, household electrical appliances, household items and furniture - everything is useful for sale for profit. Modesty and even poverty in this case do not guarantee anything.
Tips that may be useful to avoid thieves in your home:
. It is best to set the apartment to a security alarm, especially since in the event of theft the police will be held financially responsible. But, unfortunately, not everyone has the money for this;

  • do not let strangers into the apartment;

Ask for identification through a door locked with a chain or through a peephole; in case of danger, call the police;

  • women should not answer the door wearing short and light clothing;

. in the absence of guards, but if there is a code device in the entrance door, do not leave the door open, and especially do not trust strangers who are trying to enter in order to “pay a visit” to someone;
. a well-trained dog can be the best means of protection both in the apartment and on the street;
. keep a directory with the numbers of “emergency call services” (police, ambulance, fire department, etc.) near your phone at all times, as well as those who can come to your aid;
. if funds allow, purchase a cell phone or radio for possible communication with emergency services in the event that your telephone line is cut;
. warn children not to answer strangers' questions on the phone and to be attentive to suspicious persons and unusual situations around the house;
. meet and make friends with neighbors who, fully knowing your habits, may suspect something is wrong and intervene in case of strange movement or noise;

  • do not talk at every turn about your upcoming departure or your family plans;
  • if the keys have disappeared, it is better to change all the locks;

. when, answering a phone call, you hear silence on the receiver, it could be an attacker (buy a phone with caller ID);
. Do not talk on the phone to strangers and do not answer “obscene” calls: hang up and temporarily turn off the phone to “tire” a possible stalker. If it happens again, notify the police;
. never undress while standing in front of a window when the light is on in the room, keep the curtains drawn so as not to attract attention;
. If suddenly you find yourself in front of an armed criminal, then do not try to become a hero. It is better to behave passively, hiding your first feelings, since any uncontrolled reaction can have dramatic consequences;
. try to remember and write down the signs of the attacker to facilitate his possible identification; If you become a victim of any crime, even not a serious one, report it to law enforcement authorities. This can be beneficial to the entire society.
A professional thief only needs half an hour's absence from the owners to clean out the apartment. Therefore, there is no need to give him such an opportunity. For this:

  • do not give the thief the impression that all the residents have left;
  • do not leave expensive items in plain sight or too easily accessible;

. turn down the volume of the telephone so that the ringing in an empty apartment cannot be heard from outside;

  • leave the lights on and do not enter your house or garage in the dark;

. install an automatic machine that would periodically turn on the lights in the apartment and leave the radio on at a low volume;
. When returning home, keep your keys handy so as not to stand in front of the door for too long, rummaging through your bag;
. do not hide your keys in places that are too easily discovered and do not leave the door open and the apartment unattended, even if you go down to the mailbox or garage for a minute;
. if you have weapons or means of self-defense, keep them ready - from the moment you enter the entrance until the moment you enter the apartment;
. As soon as you enter the apartment, look around. If you think everything is fine, close the door from the inside. If you suspect that something has happened while you were away, it is best to leave the house and seek help. This requirement for safety should not develop into either a nightmare or a mania: the simple thought that something can happen prepares for all sorts of situations;
. Be careful when entering your home. The criminal may wait for the victim in the elevator or nearby in order to force him into the house with the help of threats in the absence of witnesses. The victim's reaction in this case depends on his training, availability of weapons and courage.

Entrance door
Protection of the front door is carried out not simply by installing another lock, but based on broader requirements. If necessary, the door must be strengthened or replaced with armored one. A criminal can enter an apartment even when someone is at home. Always use a chain on the door that only allows it to open partially. But in this regard, it should be noted that very often fastening a chain to an ordinary door with wood screws does not give it much strength and one kick or shoulder blow is enough to overcome the obstacle. Keep in mind that children or elderly people often forget to put on the chain. Always keep the security chain draped when opening the door to someone. This precaution should become a habit.
So:
. the door should be made of durable material, at least 7 cm thick. It is a good idea to cover it with a metal sheet. The metal must be disguised with paint, synthetics, slats, or artificial leather so as not to attract unnecessary attention. It’s even better to install a double door - the first one is made of wood, the second one is metal;
. In modern apartments, a strong door can easily be knocked out along with the door frame. Therefore, it is important to thoroughly reinforce this box with metal pins concreted in the walls, ceiling and floor;
. a mandatory requirement is that the door must open outward; you can’t knock it down;
. reinforce the door and door frame with steel angles so that the criminal cannot insert a crowbar or an ax into the gap;
. Place at least two reliable locks of different designs on the door (for example, one cylinder and the other lever). They should be no less than 35-40 cm apart from each other;
. locks must be installed with mechanisms of high security and strength, for example, with cross-shaped keys or with a digital dial;
. If possible, it is better to purchase a lock with a device to protect the keyhole from the penetration of foreign objects, because even if you have the most expensive armored door, attackers can hammer matches, nails or paper clips into the keyhole, and thus reliably disable the door;
. It is desirable that the locking device of the outer door does not have a key hole (for example, an electronic lock with remote code control and an autonomous power system). The fact is that some criminals inject acid through the well, which corrodes the mechanical lock;
. Be sure to equip the outer door with a strong metal chain and at least one reliable deadbolt. A peephole in the door wouldn’t hurt either, but it would be better to use a video peephole or order a simple periscope from some craftsman. Then it will be possible to survey the entire space in front of the door without the risk of getting a bullet in the eye through the viewing hole; . use the method of disinformation. To mislead the criminal, install any sensor from the old alarm somewhere in the upper half of the door leaf. In addition, use a colored wire to draw a line from the apartment to the junction box on the landing, without connecting anything to this wire. The presence of a sensor and wire will make a burglar think twice. He knows that the moment the wire or sensor breaks, the alarm will still go off.

Window
Windows are the most vulnerable place in any room. After all, glass is easy to break, squeeze out, or cut with a glass cutter. What can you recommend to protect windows? Firstly, install only high-strength double frames on windows in residential premises. If windows open, make sure they have strong and secure latches.
Secondly, windows of the first, second and last floors, glazed doors of balconies and loggias, windows located next to the fire escape, with trees, with pipes, with the roof of adjacent buildings, must be covered with bars. To prevent your home from looking like a prison, purchase bars of an unusual configuration, made taking into account aesthetic requirements.
Third, use protective films that are applied to glass. Such films hold broken or cracked glass in the frame, preventing it from shattering into fragments. Thanks to this, it continues to perform its protective functions, preventing penetration from the outside. By the way, glass with a protective film applied successfully resists blast waves and Molotov cocktails.
Fourth, cover each window visible from the outside (from the street, from the windows of buildings located opposite) from the inside with thick curtains. The lack of information about what is happening in the room also, to some extent, protects the home from unwanted visits.
Balconies, regardless of floor, must be protected with decorative grilles of sufficient strength. It is best to turn them into glazed loggias, and cover the glass with protective film (its service life in our weather conditions is at least 10 years).

Safe
Sometimes a safe in an apartment is simply necessary, although in our conditions it is very rare. This is the best way to store money, jewelry, documents, weapons and so on. If you decide to purchase a safe, the problem is its placement. First of all, choose a place to install it away from the front door so that an intruder who enters the room will spend as much time as possible searching for it. Further choice of location depends on the owner’s imagination. The safe can be disguised with small overhead parts or placed in non-lifting objects and disguised as wood, marble and other materials.
A safe place can also be found in the cellar or garage. You can install a distracting safe with a small amount of money in some familiar place, while the real vault is in a much more reliable place. This ensures the greatest safety.
Often, a thief does not even waste time trying to open the safe when he sees that it is barely holding together and can easily be carried away. Therefore, do not trust only those fastenings that are provided with the safe and try to install it more securely.

Signaling
It is advisable to conclude an agreement with the local police department on technical security of the apartment. If for some reason this is impossible (or undesirable), equip your home with an alarm system. It is a system, that is, a whole complex of devices, and not just one device on the door.
Alarm devices for security are available on the market in large quantities. Among them are detectors for breaking glass, breaking doors and locks, the movement of people indoors, and the movement of various objects. Signaling device sensors can be placed on doors, windows, grilles, walls, ceilings, furniture, installed in lighting fixtures, and household electrical appliances. Depending on the principle of operation, they are infrared, seismic, microwave, acoustic, television, complex (for example, infrared-microwave). Complex devices are the most effective, but they are also more expensive than others.

You are going on vacation
Every time you go on vacation, you worry about the possibility of burglary of the house or apartment you left behind. You reassure yourself that there is nothing valuable in the apartment that would be of interest to a thief. But this is not so: everything suits apartment thieves.
Almost anything found in the house can be taken and sold. The first warning for citizens is very general: do not be an accomplice of the one who robs you. If it is true that circumstances make a person a thief, at least try not to give him such an opportunity.
Here are some simple but valuable tips for this case:
. do not leave expensive items in the house: many people think that they protect themselves from trouble by hiding money and jewelry in their apartment in the “most incredible” places, but that’s where thieves look first;
. it is necessary to properly close all windows and doors, the most vulnerable places: there are people who make a fortress out of an apartment, but paradoxically, sometimes they forget to close it;

  • do not forget to turn on the alarm devices;

. We advise you to take photographs of all artistic valuables (paintings, jewelry, etc.) in order to facilitate the search if they are stolen;
. You can strengthen “weak” doors by installing a crossbar, which is controlled by a regular key from the outside;
. statistics say that thieves prefer apartments on the first and last floors: thieves often use scaffolding or enter the apartment from the roofs;
. in front of the windows or doors in the apartment, place a table, chairs or any other objects that, when dropped, will make noise and scare away an intruder;

  • leave washed clothes on the balcony; it may confuse the criminal;
  • stop having daily mail delivery;

. arrange with your neighbor to come open the windows, water the flowers on the balcony (withered flowers on the balcony may indicate the absence of the owner), change the drying laundry and leave it in sight, etc.;
. insure your property.

About the elevator
Certain dangers may also await you in the elevator. Even if the time spent in it is limited to a short period, this is often enough for the criminal to commit an act of violence. Therefore we advise:
. do not enter the elevator if there is an unfamiliar person there who does not inspire confidence;
. if there are suspicious people on the landing where you are heading, it is better to go higher or go down for help;
. if a suspicious person enters the elevator, press the buttons for several floors so that the elevator door opens more often, if necessary, press the emergency “stop” button;
. if the elevator is stuck between floors, do not panic, press the button to call the dispatcher and muster all your will. Do not try to get out of the elevator yourself - if you do not know how to do it;
. if due to some malfunction the elevator falls, it is necessary that the body does not come into contact with the floor at the moment of impact; to do this, you can grab the walls of the elevator and continuously jump;
. When in an elevator, it is better to stand in the corners of the cabin, and also away from glass and mirrors, which, if broken, can cause injury.

Choosing a home
Choose your neighbors. If possible, choose neighbors from a similar economic and social background. Neighbors should also take safety seriously and watch for strangers entering your area. The safety precautions your neighbors take, such as outdoor lighting, will help you solve your problems in this regard.
Choose a home that is safely located relative to your place of work. In other words, choose a house where you won’t have to travel through dangerous areas of the city to get to it and you can change your commute routes home and to work.
Pay attention to the terrain. Avoid choosing a house that is located in a low area or at the bottom of a street, which may make surveillance easier. At the same time, keep in mind that small obstacles on your territory may prevent an attack on your home from the street. Check access routes to your home, drainage holes and other places that could serve as cover for a sniper or intruder. Make sure that these places cannot be used, install bright lighting or sensors.
Install a fence. Consider installing a tall, two-row fence around the perimeter of your property with a wide gravel path in between. The inner row should be energized unless you have small children or pets. You can also install sensors on the fence and on the path, as well as television cameras aimed at the paths or the space between the rows of the fence (there should be no blind spots). Bright lighting should also be installed on each path. You can place barbed wire, rolls of wire, or sprinkle razor shards on the top of the fence.
Some experts advise having dark, unlit areas on your territory so that intruders do not know what awaits them here. It is recommended to install infrared lighting devices and infrared sensor cameras. When viewing such areas with the naked eye, they are not visible, but an infrared monitor makes them visible as daylight.
If your property already has a high wall, install sensors in or on top of it along with rolls of wire or broken glass. In any case, an internal fence built as described above will not be superfluous.
All trees must be cut down and posts and stumps dug up to prevent an intruder from climbing the fence. All hanging branches must be cut off. Thick foliage on trees outside the fence or on trees growing on your property should be trimmed to prevent a sniper or attacker from hiding in it.
Install a strong gate. Of course, it is best to have a security guard on duty at the gate 24/7 in a bulletproof booth. If this seems impractical or expensive to you, the gate can be controlled using a remote device from home. Require each guest or bellman to identify himself by telephone at the gate. Make sure that the area near the gate is well lit. It is also necessary to install television cameras here, as well as television cameras to identify the drivers of any cars stopped at the gate. Any car passing through the gate must be carefully inspected from all sides using a television camera so that another car or an intruder cannot hide behind it.
Consider purchasing guard dogs. Guard dogs are especially useful at night. Possessing a keen sense of smell and excellent hearing, dogs are excellent watchdogs. However, one should not think that the dog will necessarily neutralize the intruder. Your dog could be shot, killed, or injured with a stick. In any case, the dog will not let you be taken by surprise and will give you time to prepare to repel the attack. Dogs are also another obstacle that an attacker will have to overcome.
Do not buy bad guard dogs, for example: pit bulls, bull terriers, etc. Such dogs very often lose control of themselves and may attack you, your family members or your guests. Don’t buy a time bomb in the form of a dog, whose behavior can cause you trouble, including bringing you to court. The size of the dog does not matter, the main thing is that it barks loudly.
Note: A “Beware of an angry dog in the yard” sign is just as effective as a live dog. As one specialist said: “Besides, you don’t need to feed the sign.”
Take collective action to ensure safety. If you trust your neighbors, join forces to ensure safety. Trustworthy and honest neighbors can watch your home in your absence or call the police in case of an emergency. Get to know your neighbors better and pool your efforts and resources to implement activities such as exterior lighting, neighborhood patrols, shared security guards and alarm systems, etc.

Keeping your home safe

Lighting. It is difficult to enter a well-lit house. Every corner of the house should be illuminated. Also take care of lighting the boundaries of your area. Some security systems do not provide constant lighting throughout the entire area; Each light source must turn on automatically if an intruder crosses the infrared beam.
If you have done all the necessary things in your home, take care of the lighting outside. If this is not possible, explore possible approaches to your site and install lighting here so that there is as much space as possible between the possible hiding place of the intruder and your home.
Alarm systems. Alarm system wires must be routed through all windows and doors. To ensure greater security, all upper floor windows and doors (leading to sunrooms, balconies, etc.) should also be included in the system. You can also create a second line of defense using motion detectors and infrared sensors or pressure mats. The system must be equipped with a device for automatically dialing the number of law enforcement services when an alarm is activated.
Your security system should have a backup battery or generator. Otherwise, an intruder could cut all the electrical wires running to your home and damage the entire system.
The system must be installed by a company that has a solid reputation. Do not use companies that are known for frequent breakdowns and malfunctions of their systems. This indicates poor, unfinished systems, poor maintenance and poor installation. Remember that high cost does not mean high quality.
Room for shelter. Many homes located in potentially dangerous areas have shelter rooms or bunkers in which a family can take refuge during a dangerous period. The room must be specially designed and well fortified so that intruders cannot break into it within 10-15 minutes, i.e. this is exactly the time needed for the police to arrive.
Due to the fact that attacks are usually carried out at night, it is recommended to equip a shelter room next to the owner's bedroom. The door should be steel and have several heavy locks. The walls, and if possible the ceiling and floor, should also be steel, aluminum or concrete.
Inside the room there should be a supply of food, water and other necessary items such as a flashlight with spare batteries, bandages, and antiseptics. In addition, the room should have a fire extinguisher, gas masks (respirators), a telephone (preferably a cell phone), and a miniature radio station so that you can call for help. It is also recommended to have a wide range receiver to be aware of what is happening outside your home during a civil war or revolution.
Firebombs and arson. Your house could be firebombed and set on fire. Windows facing the street must have safety glass and be reinforced and protected with slats and shields. Smoke detectors must be installed in all rooms, including bedrooms. Fire extinguishers should be placed in strategic places around the perimeter of the house, and gas mask boxes hidden behind curtains, drapes or some pieces of furniture. Every family member should know where fire extinguishers are located. Fire extinguishers should be of simple design and capable of extinguishing wood, electrical wiring, etc. Remember that furniture and other furnishings made of polyethylene emit toxic hydrogen cyanide gases when burned. These items need to be replaced.
