Seafood dishes are rich in vitamins, minerals, phosphorus and other microelements, which is why it is so important to eat fish at least twice in seven days. Unfortunately, not everyone manages to feast on salmon or lobster often, so many people prefer a more affordable representative of the marine fauna - cod.

How to cook

Before baking fish, it must first be prepared: cleaned, gutted, cut. The main advantage of the fish is its small scales, which can be quickly and easily removed with even a slightly sharpened knife. Many stores sell already prepared fillets, but this product is a little more expensive than whole fish. There is no need to remove the skin before cooking cod in the oven, as it contains vitamins and tasty juice. Remove the spinal bone from the back and divide the carcass into two equal fillets.

How long to bake

All novice cooks need to know how long to bake cod in the oven. This is a very important point, because insufficient time will not allow the heat to penetrate to the middle of the fillet, and if you overcook the fish, it will become dry and tasteless. In order not to miss a moment, use a timer on the oven or even a regular clock. The optimal baking time is 30-35 minutes, and if the fish is whole, you can add another 5-10 minutes.

Sour cream can make a dish tender and juicy better than others. This fermented milk product has a truly magical effect. You can bake fish in the microwave and oven. There is a huge difference between these two methods. Cod in sour cream in the oven always turns out softer and juicier. And it’s somehow more familiar to cook it this way.

For this dish you will need: 400 grams of cod fillet, salt, 1 onion, half a glass of sour cream, half a glass of water, pepper, a quarter cup of flour and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.

Cooking method:

  1. Cut the fish into large pieces, sprinkle with salt and pepper and place in a stewing container.
  2. Sprinkle chopped onion in half rings on top.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix water, flour and sour cream so that the mass is free of lumps.
  4. Pour the prepared mixture into the contents of the container and place it in the oven for 40 minutes at a temperature of at least 200 degrees.

As a result, the fish will turn out to be very delicate in taste, and the sour cream filling in the finished dish will remain a little liquid and will go perfectly with the chosen side dish.

You can make a lot of healthy and tasty dishes from cod fillets in the oven. This product does not need to be cut; it cooks quickly, which makes the housewife’s work easier in the kitchen. When cooked correctly, slightly dry cod becomes tender and juicy.

Cod baked in the oven in sour cream can turn out too dry and bland only if the recipe and cooking technology are violated. Knowing how to bake it correctly, you will never encounter such a situation.

  • The fresher the cod and the less frozen it is, the juicier the dish made from it. Therefore, when choosing a product, you should pay attention to the date of manufacture and the thickness of the ice glaze.
  • Fish should be defrosted at room temperature. This will take a lot of time, but in the end you will get a more juicy dish than cod defrosted in the microwave.
  • To reduce the content of certain mineral salts in fish, which in large quantities are not very healthy and can give the dish a bitter taste, the thawed carcass can be placed in milk for an hour or two. However, there is no great need for this.
  • Even if you do everything correctly, but overcook the fish in the oven, it will end up tough and dry. Therefore, the cooking time indicated in the recipe should not be exceeded.
  • Cod is not a very oily fish, so with sour cream it turns out especially tasty. Moreover, the fattier the sour cream, the tastier and more tender the baked cod will be. It will be even better if you marinate the fish before cooking.

It is necessary to follow the technology for cooking cod in the oven, but this is not enough for the finished dish to have an impeccable taste. The choice of spices and herbs is also of great importance. White and black pepper, thyme, rosemary, parsley, dill, and basil go well with fish. Lemon zest also adds a pleasant aroma to the dish.

How to cook tasty fillet

Before cooking, the fish must be defrosted; it is advisable (and best) to do this in the refrigerator in advance. In extreme cases, at room temperature. I had cod fillets from the Barents Sea in a package from Agama, as in the photo, indeed, as stated by the manufacturer, without an ice glaze. After thawing, the cod fillet remained firm and white with a slightly pink tint.

Before cooking, cod fillet should be salted (I used coarse sea salt) and poured with marinade. I prepared the fish marinade from vegetable oil, lemon juice, grated garlic and aromatic herbs.

I salted the cod and poured the marinade directly into a deep baking dish. This way there will be less dirty dishes, and the fish will remain juicy when baked.

The marinated cod should sit for at least 15 minutes. If you want to serve this dish hot when guests arrive, you can marinate it in the refrigerator for much longer and put it in the oven at the appointed time.

Baked cod fillets will cook very quickly in the oven. Temperature in a preheated oven 170-180 degrees, cooking time 15-17 minutes.

While the cod fillet is baking in the oven, prepare a sauce for serving the fish from fresh tomatoes, garlic and herbs. Chop the washed tomatoes into cubes, chop the fresh herbs with a knife, and grate the garlic. We combine them in a deep cup, season with lime juice, olive oil, spices and oregano. Delicious vegetable sauce made from fresh tomatoes is ready!

We transfer the cod pieces to a dish, I had 4 fillets, just enough for 4 people. Place aromatic fresh tomato sauce on top of the tender baked fillet and serve the delicious dish to the table.

  • 60 ml sunflower oil.

Step by step cooking method

  1. Peel the potatoes, cut into medium-thick slices and boil in salted water for 10 minutes.
  2. The cod is cut into pieces 2 cm wide.
  3. Pieces of fish are poured with mayonnaise, salted and left to marinate for 15 minutes.
  4. The onion is cut into half rings and sautéed in two tablespoons of oil until completely softened.
  5. Grease the baking sheet with the remaining oil. Some potatoes are placed on it, fried onions are placed on top, then the marinated cod is placed. Next, add the potatoes again.

  7. 5 minutes before the end of baking, sprinkle the cod fillet with potatoes in the oven with finely chopped parsley.

Many stores sell already prepared fillets, but this product is a little more expensive than whole fish. How long to bake cod in the oven
