The coming September will be fateful for several dozen Vladivostok schoolchildren: ninth-graders who failed the OGE mathematics exam and received scores below the minimum will have to retake it. And only after this will it become known how many ninth-graders will receive certificates of incomplete secondary education and how many will not.

This year, exams in mathematics and history have become a real challenge for many ninth graders.

“In 2018, 5,112 students from Vladivostok municipal schools took the OGE,” said Elena Lelyuk, chief specialist of the department for work with educational institutions. - One person was not allowed to take the exams, six did not appear for unexcusable reasons. Three cases of violation of the rules for passing the OGE were recorded: two ninth-graders were expelled for using cheat sheets, one for bringing a mobile phone into the classroom. One graduate needed medical attention - the girl was worried.”

As you know, ninth-graders take two compulsory exams - Russian language and mathematics - and two optional ones. 1,306 people passed the Russian language with excellent marks, 101 ninth-graders received two marks, and the average score was 3.9.

A total of 813 people passed mathematics with grade five, 1,627 with grade four, but as many as 678 people failed to score above the minimum, of which only about 50 people were able to pass the exam on the days allotted for retaking the exam at the end of June, the rest will take mathematics in September. And if they fail, they will not receive a certificate - this year.

As emphasized at the commission meeting, the situation is alarming. She has several reasons. Firstly, last year the minimum score in mathematics was three, this year it is eight. Secondly, it was affected by the fact that for several years now Russian schoolchildren have been studying algebra and geometry together as one subject (and not separately, as in the USSR), so among those who did not pass the exam there are many who coped with algebra tasks, but I failed geometry and ultimately couldn’t get a passing grade.

And of course, the main reasons for such deplorable knowledge in mathematics should be sought in those schools where the number of those who fail is the highest. As the commission emphasized, work will be carried out with school heads, head teachers and subject teachers, in addition, from August, in schools where there are those who have not passed mathematics, there will be a kind of preparatory courses, which will help the children catch up.

The ninth-graders also did poorly in history, although this subject is optional and was taken as an elective. In short, a lot of conclusions will apparently be drawn. But the eleventh-graders of Vladivostok passed the Unified State Exam better, generally pleasing their teachers and parents.

Almost 3,900 people took the unified state exam, four were expelled for violations: one managed to smuggle a phone with him, and three - cheat sheets. Three graduates required medical assistance, one was taken by ambulance, two were provided with medical assistance on the spot. These guys retook the exams at additional times.

“In total, we have 11 hundred-pointers,” she said Evgenia Levushkina, chief specialist of the department for work with educational institutions, - and I would like to note that a student of Lyceum No. 41 Zhanna Khvan received two highest marks: in the exams in Russian language and literature. And since this year a high score is considered to be 80, and not 85, as in previous years, we can say that the percentage of children who received high scores on the Unified State Exam has increased significantly. By the way, we are talking only about municipal schools, while in lyceums and colleges at universities, in non-state schools, seven more people passed the Unified State Exam with 100 points.”

Six people scored 100 points in the Russian language exam, the average score in Vladivostok was 68.4 (in Russia - 70.9). They also passed mathematics well - both the specialized and basic levels, the average score for the specialized level was 44.5 (49.8 in Russia). The average scores in elective subjects are as follows: English - 61.6; physics - 50.3; social studies - 51.2.

Those guys who, for health reasons, did not take the Unified State Exam, but the state final exam, also did well in the exams; they all received certificates of secondary education.

By the way, next year there will be small changes in the Unified State Exam: from 2019 it will be possible to take the Chinese language as an option; for Vladivostok, where several schools study it in depth, this is important.

In the ninth grade, every Russian must pass four subjects in the OGE format: Russian, mathematics and two to choose from. You need to pass everything with a “3” or higher, otherwise you simply won’t receive a certificate, you will have to retake the OGE until all 4 subjects are completed. If you fail to pass 1-2 subjects, you are given a chance to retake it on a reserve day in the same year, but if you fail, only a year later.

The attitude of schoolchildren and parents towards final assessments is ambiguous. The need to prepare for a large number of subjects frankly frightens secondary school students, as does the prospect of being left without a long-awaited educational document. Is all this really so scary?

Before you panic, it’s worth understanding these truths:

The exam includes questions that are included in the standard curriculum of secondary education and are mandatory for study in all secondary schools in the Russian Federation.

The passing score threshold for compulsory subjects is truly “minimum.” It is more than possible to overcome it even for a child with an average level of academic achievement.

The exam format is softer than in the 11th grade. Students take the OGE within the walls of their home school and, naturally, it is not interested in low results.

If everything is so rosy and easy, then a logical question arises - why are exams needed in the 9th grade at all? The ministry explains that the OGE is not only about monitoring the level of knowledge of students, but also about monitoring the quality of teachers’ work. Knowing that exams are ahead, both children and teachers treat the educational process more responsibly.
