Where Sovetskaya Street and Lenin Avenue now intersect, the village of Nikolaevka appeared in 1859 as a settlement for workers of the Gorensky paper spinning mill N.A. Volkov, and after Volkov’s death, the Gorenka estate and the factory located in it were owned by the Tretyakov merchants.

On the western side of the factory settlement there was a cemetery, where, at the expense of M.V. Tretyakova, daughter of the merchant of the first guild V.N. Tretyakov, was built in 1894 according to the design of the architect A.U. Belevich is a small temple in the Byzantine style.

The temple was built in memory of the miraculous rescue of the imperial family during a train crash at the Borki station near Kharkov and that is why it was consecrated in honor of the holy blessed Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky, the heavenly patron of Emperor Alexander III.

The Alexander Nevsky Temple did not have its own clergy, since it was assigned to the parish of the Spassky Church in the village of Pehra-Yakovlevskoye (now the Spassky Church, after restoration, was consecrated as the Transfiguration Church).

In 1933, the Spassky Church was closed, and along with it, the ascribed Church of Alexander Nevsky was also closed. Subsequently, its building was used as a warehouse until its final demolition in 1955. On the site of the temple and the old cemetery, a park was laid out and the central city Lenin Avenue was laid.

At the end of the 90s. With the participation of local authorities and the clergy of the Moscow diocese, an initiative group was created with the goal of reviving the temple. In March 2000, the governor of the Moscow region B.V. Gromov gave his consent to the construction of the temple, after which, with the blessing of the head of the Moscow diocese, Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, a new parish was officially established and a board of trustees was created.

On December 4, 2001, on the feast of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the temple, the foundation stone for the temple was consecrated, and construction began.

On September 11, 2003, a minor consecration of the baptismal church took place in the name of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir. On February 12, 2004, on the day of the Three Saints, the main construction work was completed in the main Alexander Nevsky Church, the entire architectural ensemble of which was built based on the cross-domed churches of Ancient Rus' of the 14th-15th centuries. and many of its details show the Pskov-Novgorod style.

From that time on, divine services began to be held regularly at the parish. Since 2004, the square on which the temple was built began to bear the name of the Holy Blessed Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky, who became the heavenly patron of Balashikha.

On September 12, 2006, on the patronal feast day of the church, with the blessing of Metropolitan Juvenal, Archbishop Gregory of Mozhaisk performed the rite of the Great Consecration.

Today, the church holds daily morning and evening services, a Sunday school for children and adults, and creative clubs. For everyone, the clergy of the temple conduct classes on liturgics, dogmatics, the study of the Holy Scriptures and other church and theological subjects. A library, a pilgrimage service and a center for social assistance to the population are constantly operating at the temple.

The history of the Alexander Nevsky Temple, which was built in Balashikha in 1894, at first glance, is not as interesting as the history of ancient monasteries and churches in Russia. But this is a misleading impression. The hundred-year history of the temple, like a mirror, reflects all the glorious and tragic events of Russian history. Now the temple is located in the very center of the city of Balashikha. The square on which it is located is named after the heavenly patron of Balashikha - Alexander Nevsky.

History of the Temple

Where the city of Balashikha is now located, at the end of the 19th century there was only a factory settlement. Workers from the Gorensky factory, located nearby, lived here. Outside the village there was a cemetery and a church. It was built in 1894 with the money of a wealthy parishioner Tretyakova, who owned the neighboring Gorenki estate.

After the miraculous rescue of the royal family in a train crash, Tretyakova decided to immortalize this event. It was decided to build a church in honor of the holy prince Alexander Nevsky. The project was developed by architect A.U. Belevich. The temple was designed in the Byzantine style and served people until 1933.

After the revolution, the temple, like thousands of others throughout Russia, was looted, the bells were removed, and services stopped. There was a warehouse here until the 50s, and then it was completely wiped off the face of the earth. A highway was laid on the site of the old cemetery and church.

The history of the revival of the temple began at the very end of the 20th century. People gradually returned to faith; they needed visible signs of the end of the old era of godlessness. An initiative group of concerned city residents was created, which managed to register the parish of a church that had not yet been built. Of course, all this would have been much more difficult to do if not for the help of district leaders, metropolitan authorities and private patrons.

Before the start of new construction, an event occurred that city residents interpreted as a sign from above. Hurricane winds uprooted trees growing at the site of the proposed construction site. The site was thus completely cleared and ready for construction.

At the end of 2001, the ceremonial laying of the future temple took place. During construction, a temporary wooden church was built, in which services began immediately. In the summer of 2002, a cross was raised onto the temple under construction. At the same time as the temple, several more buildings were built, which were supposed to house a baptismal house, a Sunday school, and a belfry.

On September 1, 2003, just five years after the start of construction, a dome with a cross was raised onto the temple. And ten days later the baptismal temple was consecrated in honor of the holy Prince Vladimir.

On the same day, the old bell, miraculously preserved after the closure of the old temple, was also consecrated. The bell, weighing 1,150 kg, was kept in private hands for many years. How people managed to first take it away from a closed temple, then store it for several decades, and save it, literally exposing themselves to mortal danger, remains a mystery.

There are many stories of saving church valuables, but this is not a book or an icon that can be hidden without much difficulty, this is a huge bell weighing more than a ton! An amazing fact that once again confirms that people are capable of creating their own destiny and changing the course of history.

The consecration of the entire complex took place on September 12, 2004, the day of the patronal feast. A little later, on the initiative of the city mayor, the square on which the new temple was built officially began to be named after Alexander Nevsky.

The archbishop awarded all the builders, patrons of the arts, city and regional leaders, and private individuals who contributed to the revival of the temple with memorable gifts and conveyed deep gratitude from the patriarch.

The new temple architecturally resembles the Pskov-Novgorod style of the 14th-15th centuries. Cross-domed churches with facades in the shape of a currant leaf, a complex roof, a helmet-shaped dome - all this is reminiscent of the churches of Ancient Rus'.

The temple was built in the year according to the design of the architect A.U. Belevich in the Byzantine style at the expense of M.V. Tretyakova, daughter of the merchant of the first guild V.N. Tretyakov, in memory of the rescue of the emperor and the august family during a train crash at the station. "Borki" October 17, 1888. The mother of the temple builder owned the Gorenki estate in Balashikha. The Alexander Nevsky Church was attached to the Spassky Church in the village of Pehra-Yakovlevskoye, therefore, after its closure in the 1930s, services there ceased.

The church stood until the early 1960s, being used for storage space. During the years of Khrushchev's persecutions, it was demolished, and in the place where it stood, a central city avenue was laid.

The initiative group began efforts to revive the temple back in the 1990s: they installed a cross on the site of the temple and sang an akathist to the blessed Prince Alexander in front of it. And then something happened that parishioners consider a real miracle - a hurricane that swept over the capital and the surrounding Moscow region in the fall of 1998 freed up space for the construction of the temple: it uprooted large trees in the park, where the city authorities soon allocated a plot of land to the community.

In March of this year, Governor of the Moscow Region B.V. Gromov agreed to the construction of the temple, after which a new parish was officially established and a board of trustees was created.

On December 4 of the year, the foundation stone of the main temple was consecrated, and construction began. On August 24 of the year a cross was erected above the temple. Divine services were held in a temporary wooden church.

On March 7 of this year, the consecration of the foundation stone for the baptismal church in honor of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir took place. On September 1, 2003, the erection of a cross and a dome took place, which crowned the belfry over the baptismal church and the clergy house. With the installation of the cross on the belfry, the complex of church buildings received its final architectural completion.

On September 11, a minor consecration of the baptismal church was performed in honor of Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir. At the end of the rite of consecration, the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated. then a prayer service was held and the lighting of an ancient bell weighing one ton, one hundred and fifty kilograms, donated to the temple by the head of the Balashikha district V.G. Samodelov.

On February 12 of the year, work to recreate the temple was completed. The temple turned out to be bright and spacious, and the large church house with a bell tower, which was also built with the participation of the board of trustees, could accommodate a baptistery and a Sunday school. The square on which the temple was built is now called the square of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, who is the heavenly patron of Balashikha.

On September 12 of the year, the rite of great consecration of the temple was performed by Archbishop of Mozhaisk Gregory (Chirkov). Concelebrating with the Bishop were: the dean of the churches of the Balashikha district, Archpriest Nikolai Pogrebnyak, the deputy chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, the rector of the Alexander Nevsky Church, Archpriest Mikhail Makashov, and the clergy of the Moscow diocese.

Story

Temple foundation

Temple of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky located in the very center of the modern town of Balashikha near Moscow. In 1859, the village of Nikolaevka was formed on this site. Workers from the nearby Gorensky factory of Nikolai Volkov settled in it. In 1894, a small church was built at the village cemetery, consecrated in honor of Alexander Nevsky. The temple was built in the Byzantine style at the expense of M. V. Tretyakova, the daughter of the merchant of the first guild V. N. Tretyakov. The mother of the temple builder was at that time the owner of the Gorenki estate.

Revival of the temple

Work to reconstruct the temple was completed on February 12, 2004. On this day, the head of the city, Vladimir Gennadyevich Samodelov, announced that the square on which the temple was built would from now on bear the name of the holy noble prince Alexander Nevsky, who is the heavenly patron of Balashikha.

The temple was built based on the cross-domed churches of Ancient Rus' of the 14th-15th centuries. The Pskov-Novgorod architectural style is visible in many of its details. Here are the three-lobed façades, reminiscent of a currant leaf, a helmet-shaped head on a high light drum, and a complex roof imitating an ancient mosquito cover. The baptismal church of St. Vladimir is also made in the same style.

Great Consecration Temple of Alexander Nevsky took place on the day of the patronal feast, September 12, 2006.

Excerpt characterizing the Alexander Nevsky Church (Balashikha)

Days passed, and I didn’t know if my girl was still in Meteora? Did Caraffa appear behind her?.. And was everything okay with her?
My life was empty and strange, if not hopeless. I could not leave Karaffa, because I knew that if I just disappeared, he would immediately take out his anger on my poor Anna... Also, I was still not able to destroy him, because I did not find a way to the protection that he gave he was once a “stranger” person. Time flowed mercilessly, and I felt more and more my helplessness, which, coupled with inaction, began to slowly drive me crazy...
Almost a month has passed since my first visit to the cellars. There was no one nearby with whom I could even say a word. Loneliness oppressed more and more deeply, planting in the heart an emptiness, acutely seasoned with despair...
I really hoped that Morone still survived, despite the “talents” of the Pope. But she was afraid to return to the cellars, because she was not sure whether the unfortunate cardinal was still there. My return visit could bring upon him the real anger of Caraffa, and Morona would have to pay really dearly for this.
Remaining fenced off from any communication, I spent my days in complete “silence of loneliness.” Until, finally, unable to bear it any longer, she went down to the basement again...
The room in which I found Morone a month ago was empty this time. One could only hope that the brave cardinal was still alive. And I sincerely wished him good luck, which, unfortunately, the prisoners of Caraffa clearly lacked.
And since I was already in the basement anyway, after thinking a little, I decided to look further and carefully opened the next door...
And there, on some terrible torture “instrument” lay a completely naked, bloody young girl, whose body was a real mixture of living burnt meat, cuts and blood, covering her from head to toe... Neither the executioner nor the more - Caraffa, fortunately for me, there were no tortures in the torture room.
I quietly approached the unfortunate woman and carefully stroked her swollen, tender cheek. The girl moaned. Then, carefully taking her fragile fingers into my palm, I slowly began to “treat” her... Soon clear, gray eyes looked at me in surprise...
- Quiet, honey... Lie quietly. I will try to help you as much as possible. But I don’t know if I’ll have enough time... You’ve been hurt a lot, and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to “fix” it all quickly. Relax, my dear, and try to remember something kind... if you can.
The girl (she turned out to be just a child) groaned, trying to say something, but for some reason the words did not come out. She mumbled, unable to pronounce even the shortest word clearly. And then a terrible realization struck me - this unfortunate woman had no tongue!!! They tore it out... so as not to say too much! So that she wouldn’t scream the truth when they burn her at the stake... So that she wouldn’t be able to say what they did to her...
Oh God!.. Was all this really done by PEOPLE???
Having calmed my deadened heart a little, I tried to turn to her mentally - the girl heard. Which meant that she was gifted!.. One of those whom the Pope hated so fiercely. And who did he so brutally burn alive on his terrifying human bonfires....
- What did they do to you, dear?!.. Why did they take away your speech?!
Trying to pull higher the coarse rags that had fallen from her body with naughty, trembling hands, I whispered in shock.
“Don’t be afraid of anything, my dear, just think about what you would like to say, and I will try to hear you.” What's your name, girl?
“Damiana...” the answer whispered quietly.
“Hold on, Damiana,” I smiled as gently as possible. - Hold on, don’t slip away, I’ll try to help you!
But the girl only slowly shook her head, and a clean, lonely tear rolled down her beaten cheek...
- Thank you... for your kindness. But I’m no longer a tenant... – her quiet “mental” voice rustled in response. - Help me... Help me “go away.” Please... I can't stand it anymore... They'll be back soon... Please! They desecrated me... Please help me “leave”... You know how. Help... I will thank you “there” and remember you...
She grabbed my wrist with her thin fingers, disfigured by torture, clutching it with a death grip, as if she knew for sure that I could really help her... could give her the peace she wanted...
A sharp pain twisted my tired heart... This sweet, brutally tortured girl, almost a child, begged me for death as a favor!!! The executioners not only wounded her fragile body - they desecrated her pure soul, raping her together!.. And now Damiana was ready to “leave.” She asked for death as deliverance, even for a moment, without thinking about salvation. She was tortured and desecrated, and did not want to live... Anna appeared before my eyes... God, was it really possible that the same terrible end awaited her?!! Will I be able to save her from this nightmare?!
Damiana looked at me pleadingly with her clear gray eyes, which reflected inhumanly deep pain, wild in its strength... She could no longer fight. She didn't have enough strength for this. And in order not to betray herself, she preferred to leave...
What kind of “people” were they who committed such cruelty?! What kind of monsters trampled our pure Earth, desecrating it with their meanness and “black” soul?.. I cried quietly, stroking the sweet face of this courageous, unfortunate girl, who never lived even a small part of her sad, failed life... And mine hatred burned my soul! Hatred for the monster who called himself the Pope... the vicegerent of God... and the Holy Father... who enjoyed his rotten power and wealth, while in his own terrible basement a wonderful, pure soul was passing away from life. She left of her own free will... Because she could no longer bear the extreme pain inflicted on her by order of the same “holy” Pope...
Oh, how I hated him!!!.. I hated him with all my heart, with all my soul! And I knew that I would take revenge on him, no matter what it cost me. For everyone who died so brutally on his orders... For his father... for Girolamo... for this kind, pure girl... and for everyone else from whom he playfully took away the opportunity to live their dear and only life body, earthly life.

Every year the sights of the magnificent city of Balashikha become more attractive to tourists throughout the country and beyond. Thanks to its color, the city received the nickname “the eastern gate of Moscow.” On the streets of Balashikha you can see a large number of buildings of historical significance: these are luxurious estates, majestic churches and much more. Most of these buildings began their life during the time of Catherine the Great. This city is considered one of the largest settlements in the Moscow region. Getting to know Balashikha will bring pleasure and new emotions; in addition, you can have a wonderful weekend in the city.

Church buildings of Balashikha

Going through the list of the main attractions of the area, it is difficult to forget about the majestic and beautiful temple buildings. One of the most ancient buildings is the structure called the Church of the Intercession of the Virgin Mary. Mention of this place was found back in 1624, and this directly speaks of its antiquity and historical significance. Just a few years ago, the city authorities decided to restore the building, thanks to this the temple continues its life and has its original appearance, continuing to delight residents and guests of the city.
But it is also worth mentioning separately another church in Balashikha, named in honor of Alexander Nevsky. The temple was built over many years, construction was completed in the 19th century. During the Soviet era and the war, the building had a hard time. The church was almost completely destroyed, but at the moment the temple has been almost completely restored and holds services.

Temple foundation

A religious building in the village of Balashikha - the Alexander Nevsky Temple - is located in the very center of the city, so finding it will not be difficult. If you dig into the depths of centuries, you can find out that in 1859 there was a completely different city called Nikolaevka. There was a factory in the settlement, so a large number of ordinary workers lived here who wanted to work. In 1894, not far from the local cemetery, a small church was erected, which they decided to consecrate in honor of a wonderful saint under the name Alexander Nevsky. The temple had a Byzantine style and, despite its small dimensions, looked majestic and cozy in its own way. The construction of a small church was carried out with funds from a certain Mrs. M. V. Tretyakova.

Destruction

As was previously said, there was a cemetery behind the church, so there were many worshipers in the temple. In 1933, mass closures of religious buildings began in the city. Initially, the largest churches were suspended, and then small churches were also closed. After this, the temple building was used as an ordinary warehouse, which caused discontent among the city residents. In 1960, by decision of local authorities, the temple was destroyed, and no trace remained of its existence on this site. A small park was created there where city residents could walk.

Revival of the Alexander Nevsky Temple

As it turned out, the destruction of the temple and the creation of the park did not end the history of the small church. Already in our times, a wise decision was made to restore the lost cathedral. The history of the temple was continued on a significant date, namely on the day of commemoration of the beheading of the head of the Forerunner and Baptist John. This event happened in 2003. It was on this day that the necessary blessing was received and the religious procession took place. The prayer at this service was distinguished by its zeal; people fervently prayed for the triumph of justice. Also on this day, the temple was presented with an ancient, unique bell for the belfry. Therefore, on the same day it was consecrated and its establishment was blessed. This bell has an amazing history. It was preserved thanks to caring people, they were the ones who managed to save it from destruction. For many years he was silent, and it was on a significant day that he again got the opportunity to call parishioners to the temple of God.

Completion of reconstruction

February 12, 2004 was no less significant. It was on this day that the restoration work of the temple was completed; formalities remained so that services in the name of the Lord could begin to be held here again. The temple was built with the help of a huge number of caring people, all kinds of enterprises and ordinary residents of the city helped. This selfless and timely help testified to the fact that the temple in this city is needed not only as a historical memory, but also as a necessary place of spiritual life. As a result, a wonderful church was erected, bright and spacious. There was enough space for all needs, and a Sunday school was opened for the little parishioners. It is here that children will be able to get answers to all the questions of spiritual life. It is simply a gift from God that there is such a place in a city called Balashikha. The Alexander Nevsky Temple (opening hours: from 8.00 to 18.00) even provides psychological assistance to parishioners.

The mayor of the city also decided to contribute. A square was built near the temple, which was also named in honor of Alexander Nevsky. All these events can be called truly miraculous, despite the fact that a considerable number of years have passed, people returned the Alexander Nevsky Temple (Balashikha).

Reviews

The presence of God is truly felt in this place. This is often mentioned by numerous parishioners. Divine services are held regularly. Special hours are also allocated for additional services. For example, every Friday clergy pray in front of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “Inexhaustible Chalice” for healing from drunkenness.

On the territory of the temple there is a dining room and a buffet with delicious dishes prepared with your own hands. Here you can also receive financial assistance in the form of items donated by other parishioners.

Belfry above the baptismal church of St. Vladimir

In 2001, construction of another temple began in the city. During the ascension, services were held on the territory of the church; a small wooden church was specially built for these purposes. Therefore, the city residents could pray not only for themselves, but also for the speedy construction of the temple. In August 2004, a cross was erected on the cathedral. In March 2002, a church of the cross was erected opposite the Alexander Nevsky Church. It was consecrated in honor of Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir. In the same building there was a place for a bell tower and a Sunday school for children. But already in early September, a dome was installed on the temple, which completed the ensemble. Two weeks later, the building was consecrated, and services began here. This is a significant event for a city like Balashikha.

The Alexander Nevsky Temple, whose history is so amazing, was erected thanks to the fervent prayers of church ministers of old Rus'. The architecture of the building is completely designed in the Pskov-Novgorod style. This is evidenced by the facades reminiscent of foliage, multi-level and complex roof. The Church of St. Vladimir was made in the same style.

A miraculous sign on the opening day

On the opening day, the church was visited not only by residents of such a wonderful city as Balashikha. The Alexander Nevsky Temple (address: Balashikha, Alexander Nevsky Square, 1) could not accommodate everyone who wanted to attend the service. Therefore, a special area was set up next to the temple, where the service was displayed on a large screen, so everyone could see it.

During the religious procession, people observed a very rare phenomenon, which was clearly a good sign. The sun was shining brightly in the sky, but at the same time the moon appeared nearby. At the end of the service, an awards ceremony took place, at which all those who worked for the benefit of the construction of the temple were recognized. Even the smallest help was appreciated.

To this day, services are held in the temple; anyone can visit them. There is a special energy within these walls, people feel lighter, there is a certain surge of strength, they want to continue prayer and think about God. The construction of such places is very important for the spiritual state of the residents of the entire city, and local authorities understand this very well.

Services in the Alexander Nevsky Church (Balashikha) on weekdays and Saturdays begin at 8 am. On Sundays and holidays, the temple invites everyone to services at 6.30.
